Short version: You upload listing videos in Seller Central's Upload and Manage Videos tool. Pick the ASIN, add the file, submit, and wait for review. Amazon's limits: up to 4 videos per ASIN, .mov or .mp4, up to 1080p, up to 5 GB, 1 to 12 minutes. Brand Registry is not required. A video shows in the main image block only when the listing has fewer than six images.
A listing with no video has a gap. Shoppers cannot see scale, motion or the product in use. This guide covers who can upload, the upload path, how one video reaches variations and other Amazon stores, and what to check before you spend money on production. OptimalCentral is the operating system for your Amazon business. On the free and Pro layers the agent audits your listings for gaps like this one and you decide what to fix.
Who can add a video
Per Amazon, both brand-registered and non-brand-registered sellers can upload. Brand Registry is not required. You need three things:
- A Professional selling account.
- At least three months of selling history.
- Live product listings.
Where the video shows up
- Main image block. Amazon's feature posts describe listing videos as "shoppable videos" on the main image blocks of product detail pages. The video shows there only when the product has fewer than six images. With six or more, a published video will not appear in that block.
- Other stores. A video uploaded to a listing on Amazon.com may also appear on shared global listings such as the UK and Canada stores. The video library lists the stores where each video displays. Amazon notes that during testing some videos may not appear on shared global listings.
- A+ Content. A+ modules can carry video as well. That is a separate path. See our A+ Content guide.
Upload steps in Seller Central
- Open the Upload and Manage Videos tool. Amazon's path: Catalog, then Upload and Manage Videos.
- Select Upload video on the right side of the page.
- Enter the ASIN in the "ASINs" box.
- To cover variations, turn on Include ASIN(s)' product variations.
- Add the file and title, then submit.
- Wait for review. Amazon reviews each video against its community guidelines. Once approved, it typically appears within three days. In holiday seasons review can take up to seven business days. A rejected video shows the reason under Manage.
Your uploads sit in the video library on the same page. Use it to see which ASINs and stores each video reaches.
One video for a whole variation family
You do not upload once per size or color. Enter any ASIN from the family, switch on the variations option, and Amazon applies the video to the related detail pages. Amazon states a delay of up to three days.
Slow way: four uploads, four files to keep in sync.
Better way: one upload against the family's ASIN with variations on. Shoot the video so it holds for every color: show the product in use and keep color-specific claims out of the voiceover.
Specs: what is confirmed and what is not
Amazon's own guide lists the limits below.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Tool name and path | Confirmed by Amazon: Upload and Manage Videos |
| Variation sharing | Confirmed by Amazon, up to 3 days |
| Cross-store display | Confirmed by Amazon, not guaranteed |
| Videos per ASIN | Up to 4 |
| Format | .mov or .mp4 |
| Resolution | Up to 1080p |
| File size | Up to 5 GB |
| Length | 1 to 12 minutes |
| Eligibility | Professional account, 3+ months of selling history, live listings. Brand Registry not required. |
| Main image block | Only when the product has fewer than 6 images |
Rule: count the images on the listing before you shoot. At six or more, the video will not show in the main image block.
Does video help?
Amazon cites a 40% reduction in returns from videos, based on its own internal 2022 data, and publishes no method. We found no Amazon statement that video is a ranking factor. Video works on the conversion side: it answers "how big is it" and "how does it work" before the shopper buys. Judge it on your own numbers. Compare conversion rate and return rate on the same ASIN before and after, over matching windows.
What to put in the video
- Open with the product in use. Skip the logo animation.
- Show scale against a hand or a common object.
- Answer the top three questions in your reviews.
- Keep to claims you can support. Do not name competitors.
- Make it work with the sound off.
